Man is accused of murdering a person after allegedly shooting him in the face

Pedro Rodríguez, 52, was accused Monday of murdering Raúl González, also 52, reports Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza.

According to a statement, this Monday, August 13, agents from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office went to Glenwood Road, in the San Benito area, because a person had been shot. Upon arrival at the place, the agents contacted the owner of the house, Rodríguez and took his statement.

According to Rodríguez, he had shot a man in self-defense, adding that he did not know that person. As the agents toured the property, they found the lifeless body of 52-year-old Raúl González. In addition, the agents observed that González had wounds on his face that appeared to be the result of bullets.

Investigators with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office began interviewing witnesses. During the investigation it was found that the statement that the incident was in “self-defense” was allegedly misleading. Additionally, investigators allegedly found several inconsistencies at the crime scene and did not match Rodriguez’s statement.

After further investigation, Rodríguez was arrested and charged with murder in González’s death. Rodríguez was transferred and admitted to the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center. The investigation continues.

If anyone has any information regarding this case, please contact the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office or the Cameron County Crime Stoppers anonymous hotline at 956-350-5551.
