A father arrested in Algeria for a case of counterfeit money

In Chlef the small family decides to do some administrative procedures, before their return to Belgium, Mohamed therefore goes to a bank in this city. After analysis, the services of the bank in question realize that Mohamed is holding counterfeit notes totaling around fifty euros and decide to call the police.

The Algerian father is then taken on board for a hearing and then placed in police custody. On March 2, Mohamed appeared in court and was imprisoned in a dispensary in Chlef. His family, meanwhile, decided to return to Belgium to start legal proceedings to save Mohamed from this case.

Fraud complaint filed

To do this, a lawyer was hired and a complaint filed, on March 4, for fraud at the level of the police zone of Brussels capital against the exchange office in question. Following the investigation launched in this direction, the manager of the latter, who was not present on the day of the events, confirmed the two transactions carried out by a former employee of his office.

In addition, the same official said that these tickets were purchased, during confinement, at an advantageous price, from a young North African, whose identity is still unknown. In the meantime, another lawyer has also been hired in Algeria to try to get the father of the family out of prison. The latter begins legal proceedings, but the judge in charge of this case does not want to communicate anything. What makes matters even worse is the inertia of the Belgian authorities.

The Belgian lawyer then decides to send an email to the FPS Foreign Affairs to demand the intervention of the authorities concerned to unblock this file as a matter of urgency. In response to this request, the FPS Foreign Affairs stated that it was aware of this case and was following the case more closely via the Belgian Embassy in Algeria. For her part, Verginie, Mohamed’s wife, appealed in a testimony granted to the Belgian media RTBF. And this, to request the intervention, urgently, of the competent authorities to save her husband from this nightmare.
