An attack by unknown persons on a group of football fans in Naumburg (Saale) led to a federal police operation at Berlin Central Station. After the crime, the identities of 145 people from a Jena fan suit were found there on Saturday, with which the perpetrators are said to have driven on to Berlin, as the Berlin Federal Police Directorate announced on Monday.

After the fans repeatedly failed to follow police instructions, officials used “force in the form of simple physical violence after a previously formulated threat,” the authority said. Three fans were injured “as a result of the incident,” it said.

The fan organization Blue-Yellow-White Help, however, complained on Sunday on their website in a statement brutal police violence against fans of FC Carl Zeiss Jena. A spokeswoman for the federal police said on request that this allegation would also be examined as part of the further investigations.

“In the course of clarifying the facts, extensive video recordings will be evaluated and the behavior of all those involved will be checked,” the statement said. Investigations are being carried out on suspicion of resistance and physical assault against police officers and breach of the peace.

According to the federal police, the background was an incident on the journey of the fans to the game SV Lichtenberg 47 against FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the Regionalliga Nordost. When it stopped in Naumburg, around 15 to 20 masked people left the train and “physically affected” five supporters of a Saxon football club.

A 17-year-old was repeatedly punched in the face. Fan clothing and paraphernalia were also stolen. The hooded persons then got back on the train and traveled on unrecognized. “The stolen property in Naumburg could not initially be found,” wrote the federal police. (dpa)
