The FIGC has decided to remember O’Rey with a minute’s silence in the matches of 30 December and those of 4 January 2023

The world of football and more generally of sport continues to mourn the passing of O’Rey. Last night’s news was a hard blow to swallow and if messages and special dedications continue to circulate for Pelé, considered by many to be the greatest of all, even Italy and more specifically the FIGC has decided to his part. In fact, a minute’s silence has been instituted for the friendlies scheduled for today, Friday 30 December, and for the first championship match of 2023 scheduled for 4 January.

FIGC: the official note

“On the occasion of all the friendly matches scheduled for today, Friday 30 December, and the sixteenth day of the Serie A championship which will be played on Wednesday 4 January, the FIGC has arranged a minute’s silence to remember Pelé, who passed away yesterday at the age of 82“, this is the note disclosed on the official channels. Pelé’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 2 January with the wake scheduled for Monday 1 January in the Santos stadium.
