Fatal bus accident mourns poorest households in the Mexican state of Oaxaca

Oaxaca.- Since early Thursday morning, the delivery of the bodies of the 29 people who died a day before in the accident of the passenger bus that overturned and left the road in the Mixteca municipality of Magdalena Peñasco, in the state of Oaxaca, southern Mexico, began .

Dozens of floats took on the difficult task of transporting the victims of the accident from the Magdalena Peñasco municipal auditorium, which was set up as a forensic work area.

The delivery of belongings, after official identification, and other objects such as backpacks, suitcases, shoes and merchandise that was recovered from the bus accident also continued.

The last two coffins, from the United States, were delivered after 2:00 p.m. this Thursday, a gray coffin for an adult and a white one for a minor.

The forensic work, delivery of bodies and belongings lasted almost all day, explained the municipal representative of Santiago Yosondúa, Isela Hernández, who guarded the objects of the victims.

“These tasks have already taken us 24 hours, however we still cannot identify the owners of all the belongings. We have already delivered the majority and there are many objects that are still on the floor and are unidentified,” he told EFE.

Several of the bodies were transferred from Oaxaca to the State of Mexico and a large majority to Mixtec municipalities such as Yosondúa, Santa Catarina Ticua and Chalcatongo de Hidalgo, where Rosita Alvires, 57, was originally from, was in charge of her two children under the age of 17 and 18 years.

The body of this woman was veiled in her house, a house with a tin roof and a dirt floor.

His son José Manuel Nicolás demanded that the trucking company “take responsibility” for the expenses and reported that as passengers they only have two trucking lines to travel to Ciudad de Mexico like her mother did to get some medical tests for a stomach ultrasound.

The company, said his son, “did not come forward yesterday, Wednesday, the day of the accident, to provide information on the deceased.”

“We continue with the same thing, that the company in which my mother was traveling take charge of the damage, more than anything, in a respectful manner, because yesterday they did not show up at least to give the list of passengers, we do not demand more than the repair of the damage,” said the family member.

As of this Thursday, 14 patients continue to be hospitalized in Tlaxiaco and in the city of Oaxaca, 4 of them minors still reported as serious and for whom specialists are fighting to save their lives.

In a statement, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of oaxaca reported that the number of people killed in the accident that occurred on Wednesday increased to 29, while the number of injured rose to 19 and warned that the proceedings and investigations continue.

The 29 people died when the bus in which they were traveling back to their communities from Mexico City overturned.

According to the first investigations, the bus lost control when crossing the municipality of Magdalena Peñasco, about 300 meters from the seat of government of this municipality located in the Mixteca region, about four hours from the city of oaxacacapital of the homonymous state.
