The father of a young man is accused of shooting and killing the driver of a pickup truck Monday morning in North Carolina.bit after his son was fatally run over while walking down a road with his family, according to reports.
Identified as Chad Woods, 41, faces second-degree murder charges for shooting 39-year-old Jeffrey McKaya maintenance employee with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, the Person County Sheriff’s Office told NBCNews.
Woods, his son, and another family member were walking down a country lane. around 6:30 in the morning after his car ran out of gas.
McKay stopped and called 911 after hitting the teen with his truckthe authorities specified. Shortly after the father pulled out a gun and shot the manaccording to reports.
Woods and his family member, leaving the young man’s body behind, got into McKay’s truck and drove her back to her home.which was less than a mile away, the outlet reported. The father was charged with throwing the firearm used in the shooting into a pond.
The authorities They tracked Woods to his residence after identifying his son’s body. He was also charged with vehicle theft.
Besides, divers have been searching for the weapon used to kill McKay, but it has not been found.
“This is kind of a novelty,” said Person County Sgt. Kevin Morris tells abc eleven. “I’ve been in people being hit by cars and I’ve been in shootings, but this had never happened to me at the same time. Sad situation everywhere, for all the families”.
