In the dispute over faster deportation of rejected asylum seekers, FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr has proposed linking the return to countries of origin to the promotion of climate protection. “In order to put pressure on the countries of origin, we could, for example, link redemptions to money for climate protection,” Dürr told the “Bild” on Saturday.

The FDP parliamentary group leader continued: “Anyone who takes back their compatriots receives support in return, for example in the production of climate-neutral fuels for cars in Germany. That would be in our mutual interest.”

Dürr emphasized that readmission agreements with the countries of origin are now needed. “They often deny that the criminals are their citizens,” he said. “We have to go there.”

The FDP politician rejected proposals to link deportations to the issuing of visas: “I don’t believe in that. We need immigration. We have to keep reminding ourselves of that.” (AFP)
