FEI appointed former representative Orlando Aponte Rosario

The Panel on the Special Independent Prosecutor (PFEI) reported this Wednesday that they accepted the recommendation of the Department of Justice to assign a special prosecutor to the former representative of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Orlando Aponte Rosario.

According to the PFEI, they accepted the recommendation because they understood that there is evidence against Aponte Rosario in conduct of a criminal nature against his ex-wife and minors.

“By carefully analyzing this case, we determined that what is appropriate in law is to accept the recommendation of the Secretary of Justice,” says the Panel Resolution.

Attorneys Emilio Arill García and Leticia Pabón Ortiz were appointed as independent special prosecutor and delegated prosecutor, after the judicial protection order issued against Aponte Rosario on June 15, 2023.

In summary, the Division of Public Integrity and Comptroller’s Affairs of the Department of Justice received a referral related to a protection order issued against Aponte Rosario. The preliminary investigation concluded that he may have incurred in actions contrary to the Law for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and the Law for the Safety and Protection of Minors.

The protection order reveals “shocking physical and sexual abuse” committed against his then-wife. The special prosecutors Arill García and Pabón Ortiz will have a term of 90 days, which could be extended, to investigate all the details.
