The man, who admitted during his police custody on Monday to be the cause of the death of his wife, faces life imprisonment.

The companion of the forties found dead this Sunday at his home in Pont-Péan (Ille-et-Vilaine) was indicted on Tuesday for “intentional homicide by spouse” and placed in pre-trial detention, we learned from judicial source.

Referred to the Rennes prosecutor’s office, this man born in 1987 was indicted by the investigating magistrate for “voluntary homicide by spouse” and placed in pre-trial detention, said the public prosecutor of Rennes Philippe Astruc.

The suspect appeared at the Rennes police station on Sunday “to report that he had found his wife dead at his home in Pont-Péan”.

“He quickly admitted to the investigators that he was behind the death of his wife following a strangulation with an extension cord which was indeed to be found in the couple’s apartment,” the prosecutor explained on Monday.

The respondent “raises a dispute”

The prosecution had indicated that an autopsy “made it possible to determine a death by mechanical strangulation, with the help of a link”, specifying “that no old traumatic trace was found on the body of the victim” .

The respondent “does not really explain his gesture and evokes an argument”, according to the prosecutor.

The couple had met in 2014 and married in 2017. A separation, at the initiative of the forties, had taken place in November 2021, added the prosecutor. According to the magistrate, the husband had been hospitalized in a specialized environment following a suicide attempt in February 2022.
