• 14 towns in Yvelines are experimenting with the filing of complaints by video
  • The procedure to be carried out is relatively simple and aims to unclog the police stations
  • This innovation is progress for citizens who could thus save time. However, many French people still suffer from illectronism

Since this week, the filing of a complaint by videoconference has been tested in 14 towns in Yvelines: Châteaufort, Coignières, Élancourt, Guyancourt, La Verrière, Le Mesnil-Saint-Denis, Magny-les-Hameaux, Maurepas, Milon-la-Chapelle, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Saint-Lambert, Toussus-le-Noble, Trappes, Voisins-le-Bretonneux. In this article, we will explain the ins and outs of this initiative.

How to file a complaint by video?

On its website, the Ministry of the Interior details the different phases of filing a complaint by video. If you do not live in one of the municipalities mentioned above, you will have to wait. This is accomplished in 4 steps:

  1. Citizens must first identify themselves on the Visioplainte service with FranceConnect.
  2. You then choose an appointment slot and you will receive an invitation by e-mail or SMS.
  3. You must then click on the invitation link at the appointed time of the appointment.
  4. The video interview starts and you can chat with the police officer or the gendarme.

What is this device for?

The ambition of the Visioplainte is very clearly to unclog police stations and barracks, as Eric Henry of the Alliance police union explained to Europe 1 : “The citizen can always come to the police services which are open, I remind you 24 hours a day, seven days a week to file a complaint in person, come and ask for information, or to file a handrail”says the official.

Towards an extension to all of France?

For now, we are still in a test phase. But as our colleagues are already anticipating, this approach could soon be extended to all police stations.

Overall, citizens will be quite the winners, especially if it saves them a long queue at police stations. However, not everyone will be able to benefit from it. We also know that France has 13 million people far from digital, according to an estimate dating from 2021.

These users are often applicants for local public services, thus running counter to the idea of filing a complaint by interposed screen. To meet this demand, the State has also opened counters on the territory via the France Services program. However, these buildings are not always well identified in the municipalities, and success is not necessarily there.
