After more than a month of the winter season marked by hot temperatures and a severe lack of precipitation, for about ten days the cold, rain and snow have made a comeback, which portends a reduction in water stress.

For example, the level of the Beni Haroun dam, in the wilaya of Mila, increased significantly after the rains recorded during the past week. Indeed, the filling rate of the dam is 75%, or the equivalent of 665 million m3, out of a total capacity estimated at more than 860 million m3.

According to the same source, the quantity of water stored by this dam, in less than a week, exceeded 8 million m3, and that only 6 meters remained to reach the maximum level.

In addition, the dam should be filled in the next few days in view of the forecast rainfall forecasts, which could ensure a water supply for years.

Beginning of the transfer of water from Oued Sebaou to the Taksebt dam

On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, thanks to the significant rainfall and snowfall recorded in the region in recent days, part of the water transfer project from Oued Sebaou to the Taksebt dam, in the wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou, has been put into service.

The wali, Djilali Doumi who supervised the launch of the operation, affirmed that “This decision was taken in favor of the last climatic precipitations experienced by the wilaya in order to make good use of the quantities of rain which are dumped on the wilaya and those expected from the melting snow”.

He also specifies that for the time being, a quantity of 90,000 M3 will be transferred daily to the dam which currently records a filling rate of 16% with 28 million m3 of water.

The remaining part, with a capacity of 180,000 m3, will be delivered next April, indicated Djilali Doumi who indicated that the total reception of the project within the deadlines is listed as “one of the priorities” of the year in Classes.

A specialist calls for stopping the flow of rainwater to the sea to recover and store it
