At the end of the election campaign, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan accuses the opposition of wanting to overthrow him with the help of the United States. “Biden[US President, Joe]gave the order to overthrow Erdogan, I know that. All of my people know that,” the 69-year-old said at a rally in Istanbul today in reference to US President Joe Biden.

He did not substantiate his claims. Erdogan’s challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu refrained from campaign events today and only visited the mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.

Kilicdaroglu is ahead in polls

According to polls, Erdogan is behind Kilicdaroglu. In addition to the president, the parliament will also be re-elected tomorrow. Erdogan’s Islamic-conservative AKP and the nationalist MHP are taking on an alliance of six led by Kilicdaroglu. The strongest force in the sextet is Kilicdaroglu’s secular Republican People’s Party (CHP).

Late on Sunday there could be the first indications of whether there will be a runoff election for the presidency. This is the case if none of the candidates gets over 50 percent.
