A white march gathered this Sunday nearly a thousand people in Finistère to protest against the suspended prison sentence of the driver who knocked down the 17-year-old teenager in 2019.

A court decision that does not pass for the family of the victim. A white march took place this Sunday in Landéda, Finistère, to protest against the simple suspended prison sentence of the driver who overthrew Théo Stephan, a 17-year-old who died in 2019.

“Inadmissible” for the father of the teenager

“Theo does not exist in their convictions. It is inadmissible and inexplicable. There are no words to match what they have done”, denounces his father to France 3 about the occupants of the car that hit her son.

Emotion is still strong in this Breton town of 4,000 inhabitants, four years after the events. The white march started this Sunday, around 10 a.m.

Just over a thousand people walked towards the crossroads where the tragedy took place, carrying a large banner “Justice for Theo”.

Manslaughter not accepted

The judicial court of Brest, in Finistère, sentenced the main suspect on Thursday to six months in prison, suspended probation for two years for “driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotics and lack of a driving license”, according to France 3.

The other two defendants, the owner of the car and a passenger, prosecuted for failure to assist a person in danger, were acquitted. The court did not recognize the charge of manslaughter.

The decision revolts the relatives of Théo Stephan. The young man’s family is asking the Attorney General to appeal the decision. She also started an online petition.

Run over twice

The 17-year-old teenager was run over by a car in a parking lot in Aber-Wrac’h on May 19, 2019 in Finistère.

The occupants of the vehicle, three young men aged between 20 and 21, according to West France were a group of young people returning from disco. The driver knocked over and rolled over the teenager for the first time, before crushing his body a second time.

The lifeless body of Théo Stephan was found around 5 a.m. by one of his friends who had been sent by the young man’s mother, worried about not seeing him return.
