Fire brigade in Essen-Altendorf: Christmas tree goes up in flames. Six people, including five children, are slightly injured.

A burning Christmas tree caused a fire brigade to be deployed in Altendorf on Boxing Day. Six people were slightly injured in the fire, including five children between the ages of six months and twelve years.

When the first emergency services arrived on Grieperstrasse, the burning Christmas tree on the ground floor of an apartment building had already been extinguished by tenants. All residents had evacuated the building before the fire department arrived. The tenant of the fire apartment and the five children were examined on site by an emergency doctor and then transported to hospitals with suspected smoke inhalation.

Fire brigade warns of fire hazards, especially at the end of the Advent season

Luck in disguise: A full fire in the apartment was prevented by the quick action of neighbors with a few buckets of water. Due to the resulting flames and smoke, the apartment is initially uninhabitable. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

In this context, however, the Essen fire brigade once again expressly reminds of the fire hazards that may arise from Advent arrangements that may have already dried out and burnt down candles on Christmas trees.
