A three-story building on Meridian Street in East Boston went up in flames early Tuesday morning.
Crews were on the scene of the fire around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and firefighters were able to control the heavy fire in the basement. There was a lot of smoke that limited visibility.
The building, which was vacant at the time of the fire, appeared to house several businesses on its first floor, including a restaurant and lounge.
The fire was extinguished around 4:30 am No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was the subject of an investigation by the Boston Fire Department.
Crews were to remain on scene to check for hot spots.
