Los Angeles Councilman Curren Price was charged Tuesday with 10 counts of embezzlement, perjury and conflict of interest, according to a report.

Price was charged with five counts of grand theft for embezzlement, three counts of perjury and two counts of conflict of interest, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing the District Attorney’s Office.

Details about the allegations were not immediately available. NBC 52 has contacted the county attorney’s office for more information on the allegations.

“We have not seen the charges filed against Councilor Curren Price,” Price’s communications director Angelina Valencia-Dumarot said. “It is highly unusual for charges like this to be brought against a sitting City Council member without notice or discussion.”

“Curren Price is a long-serving public servant who has given his life for the City of Los Angeles. He looks forward to defending himself once he has had the opportunity to address these charges.”

Price, 72, was elected to the Los Angeles Council in 2013 and re-elected to continue in office in 2022. As a councilmember, he represents District 9, which encompasses much of South Los Angeles.

Price’s accusation comes months after an audio leak scandal that led to the resignation of then-council president Nury Martinez.

The audio, which contained racist comments, also involved Councilman Kevin de León, who was present during the meeting.
