A three-story house, located on the 11th block of Jirón Carabaya, in downtown Lima, was severely affected by a fire that was unleashed on Thursday during the demonstrations that took place against the Government. The flames consumed a large part of the 1.5 meter high historic building, which had 8 balconies and was built in an area of 500 meters.

On the future of the building, which had been renovated in 2018, the Civil Defense manager of the Municipality of Lima, Mario Casaretto, spoke this morning. The official said that the decision corresponds to the Ministry of Culture, since it is a private property, so state participation is limited.
The head of Culture, Leslie Ugarte, regretted the destruction of the property and indicated that a technical report is expected to determine its future. “You must evaluate its structure because it is a thatch, abobe building. With the technical report we will be able to know what type of intervention we have to do, ”she pointed out.

In dialogue with TV Peru, he indicated that a possible recovery of the property will depend on the competition of the owners, the Municipality of Lima and the State.
“We are going to see the technical report first, but since it is private property it requires the participation of the private party, that is, the participation of the owner. We know that there are requirements to be able to rescue or intervene. The Ministry of Culture provides technical assistance and accompanies the families, we have to work with the Municipality of Lima, ”he pointed out.
According to Civil Defense, three people were injured during the fire at the property. Nearly 30 citizens lived in the place, many of them of Venezuelan nationality. Five houses adjoining the house were also damaged.
