Everyone serves their game. Yesterday’s meeting in the impeachment commission of the lower house / Télam

After a session of the impeachment committee of Deputies that lasted for more than seven hours, the Frente de Todos managed to endorse the “admissibility” report of the 14 complaints against the Supreme Court that, in fact, initiates a process that, according to the opposition, will seek to “wear down” the judges by summoning witnesses and the search for “evidence” elements, but which would be archived because the ruling party would not have a special majority to give it further approval in the enclosure.

The conference took place the day before in the annex of the lower house where the FdT weighed in its majority – it has 16 of the 31 members of the Commission – with which it achieved a tight approval that allows it to begin the investigation against Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rozenkrantz, Ricardo Lorenzetti and Juan Carlos Maqueda.

The opposition once again dismissed the complaints against the judges as “inadmissible” and assured that, ultimately, everything is about an attack against the “Constitution.” He also spoke of “circus” and “fireworks” because the ruling party knows that it does not have the votes for it to prosper.

The two representatives of the Civic Coalition, Juan Manuel López and Paula Olivetto, ended up accompanying the rejection of the rest of their peers from Together for Change, but clarifying that they did enable complaints against Lorenzetti, whom Elisa Carrió has been seeking to dismiss since 2017.

However, the proposal of the “lilitos” was “testimonial” because the ruling party voted on the accusations in a general way. “They are taking all the deputies who are not from the FdT to vote against, they are missing an opportunity. The advance against the Court and this process that is going to be voted on as a package have pathetic precedents such as the uprising that the president and a group of governors committed last December after the precautionary measure issued by the Court (in favor of CABA). It was a destituent act because it tries to alter the democratic order,” said López, also vice president of the Commission, who ruled out any “contradiction” in his onslaught against the Rafael jurist “because they are previous causes, which have nothing to do with the content of his sentences”.

COMPLAINT BY A MEMBER

In any case, the ruling party tried to divide the opposition representation by giving rise to a surprise accusation by Olivetto, who took the floor to warn “about the tightness of Lorenzetti’s environment” against him. It was then that the Kirchnerist deputy Rodolfo Tailhade asked the head of the body, the also pro-government Carolina Gaillard, to accompany the denunciation of the Buenos Aires legislator in Justice.

In this regard, Pablo Tonelli (PRO), also a member of the body, considered that it would be necessary for Olivetto to “specify what the harassment consists of so that it does not remain as a statement without further details.” In dialogue with this newspaper, he assured that the parliamentary debate took place “within the foreseeable with very clear positions” in both sectors and that is why the vote ended, as expected, with tight numbers. It is that the ruling party has that tight majority that would also allow it to issue an opinion but in no way would it be enough for the Chamber of Deputies to give half a sanction to the initiative (it is approved with two thirds of the body).

However, next week the trial commission of the lower house will meet again. “They are going to seek to substantiate the evidence, which I believe is offered in the complaints themselves. Surely they will set hearings to summon witnesses and release communications to request files”, Tonelli indicated and predicted that the process will last for several months.

The objective of the ruling party is clear for the representatives of JxC: to try to “wear down” the figure of the four judges and also to take advantage of the onslaught against the highest court to unite an opposition coalition that cannot surf its own internal problems.
