Five people die after vehicle fire in crash on 710 Freeway

Five people were killed early Monday when a dark-colored sedan crashed into a fader on the 710 Freeway, was struck by other vehicles and caught fire.

The crash occurred on the northbound 710 Freeway, at the transition to the southbound 91 Freeway, at 4:12 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Five people were confirmed dead in the vehicle, CHP officer Michael Nasir told reporters at the scene. One person was hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities say.

“Our investigation, at this time, indicates that only one vehicle was involved,” CHP Officer Angelia Gonzales said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert closing all northbound lanes of the freeway in the crash area for investigation. The 1 Freeway lane was reopened around 6 am, along with the transition ramp to the 91 Freeway, the CHP reported.
