Five years in prison for a grandfather who sexually abused his granddaughter in Ecuador

DRAFTING.- The Ecuadorian Justice has sentenced Eddy Oswaldo L. to five years in prison as the perpetrator of the crime of sexual abuse committed against his 9-year-old granddaughter, the State Attorney General’s Office reported on Tuesday.

The judges also ordered the 71-year-old sentenced man to pay $4,500 as comprehensive reparation to the victim.

During the trial hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated that Eddy Oswaldo L. took advantage of the fact that the girl’s parents went to work to sexually abuse her.

These events occurred on several occasions, during 2018, at the family home, located in the canton of La Troncal, in the province of Cañar (south).

The girl told her mother what happened and together they went to the Prosecutor’s Office to report the attacker.

The Prosecutor’s Office ordered several proceedings, with the aim of clarifying the facts and that the person responsible is prosecuted and tried.

In addition, to ensure physical, psychological and social integrity, the victim was admitted to the Protection and Assistance System for Victims and Witnesses (Spavt).

The Prosecutor’s accusation was based on the reproduction of the anticipated testimony of the victim, on the testimonies of his relatives, of the experts who carried out the assessments of the social and psychological environment of the victim, of the police officers in charge of the investigation and the recognition of the the place of the scene.

Eddy Oswaldo L. was sentenced according to the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code, which penalizes the crime of sexual abuse with deprivation of liberty for five to seven years.
