dautphetal.
A boy (11) has been killed in a boat accident in Dautphetal. Two adults involved are being investigated for involuntary manslaughter.

Now it is sad certainty: The eleven-year-old boy who fell into the water in a boat accident on the Lahn in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district on Saturday morning is dead.

It is a tragic accident that happened over the weekend in Dautphetal in Hesse. However, since there are still many unanswered questions about the boy’s death, the Marburg public prosecutor’s office and the criminal investigation department of the central Hesse police headquarters are now investigating the initial suspicion of negligent homicide against two adults. The two 31 and 35-year-old men were sitting with the eleven-year-old boy in a rubber dinghy that capsized on the Lahn near Friedensdorf on Saturday afternoon at around 1:15 p.m.

“Family relationships” are clarified

The two adult men were able to save themselves from the flooded river. The boy was initially lost in the raging river. The eleven-year-old is the son of the 31-year-old man’s partner, prosecutor Timo Ide explained the relationship between the victim and one of the survivors. The family relationships had been the subject of speculation on Sunday. All boat occupants come from the hinterland. More was not to learn about the personal details.

Difficult rescue operation

A large contingent of up to 250 rescue workers and a police helicopter were deployed to find the missing eleven-year-old, the Hessian media reported. It took hours to finally find him and get him out of the water. This was reported by the Hessian media and the German press agency on Saturday evening. The rescue workers then found what they were looking for between Friedensdorf and Carlshütte.

The public prosecutor’s office describes the rescue work as follows: “After an extensive search, rescue workers found the eleven-year-old boy in the water at around 5:15 p.m. After the extensive rescue work, which was made more difficult by the rough terrain and the strong current of the Lahn, the seriously injured boy was taken to a hospital. He died there the following day.”

As reported by mittelhessen.de, rescuers had taken a boat up the Lahn from Cölbe near Marburg. A police helicopter supported from the air and other emergency services are said to have stretched several ropes across the Lahn to Cölbe in order to be able to save the boy.

Flood warning

In the current situation, the authorities warn of the dangers on and on the Lahn: Floods are currently causing high flow rates on the Lahn, said a spokesman for the Marburg-Biedenkopf district. The water level is higher than normal.

The two survivors are now at the center of the investigation: “The two men came after the

Accident initially to medical care in a hospital. After a doctor had taken a blood sample there on the orders of the Marburg public prosecutor’s office, both were allowed to leave the clinic again, ”reported the public prosecutor and press spokesman Timo Ide and the police chief inspector Yasmine Hirsch in a joint statement on Monday. The public prosecutor’s office in Marburg has initiated investigations on suspicion of negligent homicide against the two men from the hinterland. Rescue workers took the dinghy out of the water and police officers secured it.

Boy’s autopsy requested

“More detailed information on the exact circumstances of the accident cannot be given at the moment, as they are the subject of the ongoing extensive investigations,” Ide and Hirsch continued. The public prosecutor’s office in Marburg has also requested the autopsy of the deceased boy from the district court in Marburg. This will probably take place in the forensic medicine department in Gießen. “Further findings are not expected before the end of the week,” prosecutor Ide said on the phone.
