There is no doubt that 2023 is having one of the best soundtracks in history. And it is not for less, since several bands and artists that we love have released songs and even impressive albums this year. However, we also have expected returns, such as that of Florence + The Machine, who shows us the dark side of society in the video for “Mermaids”.

As you will remember, in 2022 and after almost three years without publishing anything new, Florence Welch and company returned with their most recent record material, Dance Fever. Since then, Florence + The Machine moved away from the spotlight, although their hand was low, they were planning everything to return through the front door and present unpublished rolitas.

And it is that “Mermaids”, the new song by Florence + The Machine, combines a dark and danceable instrumentation with the powerful voice of the great Florence Welch. The true meaning of the song has yet to be confirmed, but thanks to some phrases in the lyrics, it is possible that the theme talks about the nine years of sobriety of the leader of the band and the darker side of society.

Why do we say it? Well, why? this new song by Florence + The Machine –which was produced by Dave Bayley, the mind behind Glass Animals–, refers to mermaids with “sharp teeth” who appear at night to drink, dance, and “sacrifice a human heart.”…. makes sense, don’t you think?
