Washington, May 2 (EFE).- Ford took another step this Tuesday in the growing trade war in the electric vehicle (EV) segment in the United States by announcing a price drop for the SUV Mustang Mach-E , the second in four months.
The American manufacturer will reduce the prices of its most popular EV between 1,000 and 4,000 dollars, depending on the version, four months after the previous discount.
The announcement comes shortly before Ford announces its first-quarter financial results on Tuesday.
In April, Ford reported that sales of the Mustang Mach-E fell 19.7% in the first quarter of the year, falling from 6,734 units from January to March 2022 to 5,407 in the same period of 2023.
The decision to lower EV prices also comes after Tesla, the world’s largest electric vehicle maker, has been forced to cut the price of its vehicles several times so far this year to stimulate demand.
And in April, the US government cut in half the tax incentives it offers for the purchase of an EV, which has left the figure at $3,750.
At the new prices, the cheapest Mustang Mach-E, the rear-wheel-drive version with standard range, is now $42,995, while the most expensive, all-wheel-drive GT with extended range, is priced at $59,995.
