The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced today, Thursday January 19, 2023, that foreign exchange reserves amounted to more than 60 billion dollars, while economic growth reached 4.1% in 2022, and should reach 5% in 2023, according to the official agency. And this during his opening speech at the Government – ​​Walis meeting, taking place at the Palais des Nations in Algiers.

He also referred to a number of positive indicators and results that have been achieved over the past three years, thanks to strategic development and “the participation of the walis in solving the problems that hindered businesses for bureaucratic or legal loopholes”.

Recalling that among these results, which made it possible to create a “clear economic and social dynamic” in Algeria, the Head of State highlighted “the reduction of the import bill by an amount ranging from 36 to 38 billion of dollars”, after “this bill has risen in the past to 63 billion dollars per year due to over-billing”.

Tebboune highlights the increase in non-hydrocarbon exports from 2019 to 2022

In addition, the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune mentioned the increase in non-hydrocarbon exports declaring: “We were able, for the first time, to increase exports from 1.7 billion dollars in 2019, to 5 billion dollars. in 2021, then to 7 billion dollars in 2022, therefore an annual increase of 30%. »

The Head of State nevertheless acknowledged that salaries remain “insufficient”, stressing that “the level of salaries will be raised to reach 47% by the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024”.

He said that the current year “will see the launch of the first Algerian sugar production plant, and the first 100% national production of edible oil”.
