For a long time it was uncertain whether Mick Schumacher would still drive in Formula 1 next year. For many, a change to Formula E, for example, was already a given. After a long back and forth, the 23-year-old had not received a contract with Haas beyond the 2022 season. Instead, Mick Schumacher’s son will be the reserve driver for the Mercedes racing team. Where his father ended his career.

Now a video excerpt from the summer appeared. At the Canadian Grand Prix, which took place in Montreal in June 2022, Mick Schumacher made a curious mistake. Mercedes took this as an opportunity to tease its new third driver.

Mick Schumacher confused the Mercedes team around boss Toto Wolff

The race in Montreal was rather unfortunate for Mick Schumacher. The 23-year-old stopped at the side of the track on the 20th lap. The reason was probably technical problems. At the time, the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher was in 8th place and could have scored points for the first time this season based on his performance so far.

But away from the race track, an action by Schumacher caused a lot of confusion – with his later new racing team Mercedes. The Haas driver mistakenly did not run into his team’s garage, but into that of Mercedes.

Mercedes has now taken up the action again after Schumacher’s official change, making for funny comments.

“Now it all makes sense,” writes the Mercedes F1 team on social media. In it: Photographer and influencer Paul Ripke between a confused engineer who shouts: “Mick Schumacher just walked through our garage” and team boss Toto Wolff.

He accepted the strange incident with a mixture of confusion and composure. However, his reaction caused funny comments from the fans under the video.

Fans suspect: That could have been the harbinger of the change

On Youtube, a user suspects: “So he accidentally knew all the secrets of Mercedes and they couldn’t help but sign him”. Another writes: “It wasn’t a mistake, it was a hint”.

The comments on Instagram take a similar line. A fan writes: “He has already manifested his change”. Another user only comments: “‘Yes, yes, I’ll just leave my application here, Toto, okay?'” A fan interprets Toto Wolff’s look with the words: “Toto’s brain: we keep him.”
