Ecclestone on Schumacher: “He must forget this dream”

Mick Schumacher should therefore not have too high hopes of rising to the top of Formula 1. Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone believes Schumacher’s future in motorsport is bleak, as he revealed in an interview with RTL/ntv and “Sport.de” reveals.

“He has to forget this dream, because sooner or later we all wake up from a dream,” Ecclestone makes clear there. And: “He has to forget that and start thinking about what the alternative is and try to pursue that.” The opinion of the Brit is clear: Mick no longer has a future in Formula 1.

Ecclestone sees one reason for Mick Schumacher’s difficulties in Formula 1 in his environment – and especially the hole left by his father Michael Schumacher. His health has been unclear since the devastating skiing accident in 2013. Michael’s experience could help his son realize his full talent in Formula 1, according to Ecclestone.

The former race promoter believes: “He needs someone who really wants to make him successful and takes care of him the entire time.” Mick hasn’t gotten that from Haas so far. Ecclestone only believes that Red Bull’s Christian Horner is capable of a potential sponsorship role. But he currently has no need for Mick Schumacher’s services.

However, that doesn’t do him much good in terms of Formula 1, as Ecclestone thinks: “They are not the kind of people who can help him. They help him in many things, but not for a career as a Formula 1 driver.”
