Formula 1
Since Mick Schumacher made his debut in Formula 1 in the 2021 season, speculation about his future has not stopped. After two years as a regular driver at Haas, he has to move into the second row as a reserve driver at Mercedes for the 2023 season.
But he doesn’t want to be satisfied with that in the long run. He is aiming for a comeback in Formula 1 as a regular driver. But that won’t happen. At least when it comes to the opinion of ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone. He predicts a bleak future for Mick.

Ecclestone on Schumacher: “He must forget this dream”
Mick Schumacher should therefore not have too high hopes of rising to the top of Formula 1. Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone believes Schumacher’s future in motorsport is bleak, as he revealed in an interview with RTL/ntv and “Sport.de” reveals.
“He has to forget this dream, because sooner or later we all wake up from a dream,” Ecclestone makes clear there. And: “He has to forget that and start thinking about what the alternative is and try to pursue that.” The opinion of the Brit is clear: Mick no longer has a future in Formula 1.
Ecclestone: Papa Michael Schumacher and a sponsor figure are missing
Ecclestone sees one reason for Mick Schumacher’s difficulties in Formula 1 in his environment – and especially the hole left by his father Michael Schumacher. His health has been unclear since the devastating skiing accident in 2013. Michael’s experience could help his son realize his full talent in Formula 1, according to Ecclestone.

The former race promoter believes: “He needs someone who really wants to make him successful and takes care of him the entire time.” Mick hasn’t gotten that from Haas so far. Ecclestone only believes that Red Bull’s Christian Horner is capable of a potential sponsorship role. But he currently has no need for Mick Schumacher’s services.
But what about the rest of the Schumi family? She could, after all, support Mick. They do too. However, that doesn’t do him much good in terms of Formula 1, as Ecclestone thinks: “They are not the kind of people who can help him. They help him in many things, but not for a career as a Formula 1 driver.”
Ecclestone railed against fake interviews
Bernie Ecclestone also commented on the recent events at the Funke media group. The magazine “Die Aktuell” had advertised exclusive interviews with the record world champion on the front page. The family had taken legal action against the Funke media group. The responsible editor-in-chief was dismissed.

Ecclestone regrets the incidents, as he clarifies: “I don’t think you can use the word ‘criminal’, but it’s bad that they have to do that to sell a newspaper.”

He feels the fake interviews are particularly damaging to the Schumacher family, who are suffering the consequences of their publication. He said: “It’s hard for the family”.
