This is the case of Fatima, an Algerian national established in France, who, failing to renew her residence permit, found herself living the ordeal on a daily basis, writes La Voix du Nord.

Without a residence permit, an Algerian woman loses her job and her home

arriving in France in 2009, Fatima managed to obtain a 10-year residence permit. However, the tranquility of the daily life of this Algerian woman was turned upside down following the expiry of her residence permit in 2019. Despite all the efforts made to renew her residence permit in France, Fatima is still going underground.

The woman of Algerian origin says that she appealed to the prefecture of Lille, on numerous occasions, to renew the document allowing her to stay in France. But in vain. Fatima declares that she has received nothing from the prefecture in question, not even a receipt allowing her to carry out her work and find new accommodation.

After 10 years in France, the life of this Algerian woman has gradually fallen into hiding. First she lost her job and then her home. Today, Fatima hopes to obtain at least one receipt which will enable her to find “temporary” regularization in France.

Associations denounce the delays in obtaining residence permits in France

As a reminder, at the beginning of the current month of February, a hundred people met in front of the prefectures of Île-de-France to denounce the slowness of the procedures and the delays in obtaining residence permits in France. . The movement led by associations defending the rights of foreigners describes an uncomfortable situation for foreigners who go through the ordeal to renew their residence permits.

Indeed, the latter denounce processing times that are only getting longer due to the digitization of administrative procedures in France. And this, to the point that certain documents “go out of date” during the procedure for processing the application for renewal of this residence permit. Moreover, the unavailability of appointments at the prefecture level only worsens the situation.
