The question of renewing a residence permit in France has always been the subject of numerous complaints from foreign nationals established in the country. This is also the case for several Algerians who encounter difficulties when extending the duration of this document which allows them to remain on French soil.

This is the case of Mhamed, an Algerian father, who, due to the non-renewal of his residence permit, loses his job at Renault, after 29 years of career. Indeed, speaking in Olivier Delacroix’s Free Antenna program, Mhamed recounts the problem that cost him his job and asks for advice.

Employed at Renault for 29 years, an Algerian loses his job for non-renewal of his residence permit

In his telephone interview, Mhamed, 53, says he is the father of three daughters and lives in the Lyon region. Today, Mhamed loses his job due to the non-renewal of his residence permit, a situation he denounces via Olivier Delacroix’s program.

For nearly six years, the fifty-year-old has not been able to renew his residence permit. The Rhône prefecture is content only to grant him receipt after receipt and to ask him to wait. A document, which, obviously, remains insufficient for his employer, Renault. And this, for the reason that the car giant cannot keep an employee who does not have a residence permit.

For the Algerian national who joined France 50 years ago, this situation is incomprehensible. In particular, on the side of the prefecture which refuses to provide him with his residence permit, but also on the side of his employer who terminated his CDI, for such a reason.

In an attempt to regularize his situation, this father explained that he hired a lawyer. Thanks to which, he once again received a receipt whose validity is fixed for the month of June 2023. Mhamed also says that he sold his house because of his situation. The Algerian national also raises another issue relating to the workers’ union with his employer, who had known about it for five years without making the slightest effort to try to help Mhammed.
