While the Halo franchise has generated more than $10 billion, there is every reason to believe that one of its prominent creators left Microsoft quite recently.

A Halo figure walks away

When Frank O’Connor is mentioned to fans of the Halo series, many already know who this creator is. Coming from press at Bungie in 2004, he worked on Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach. And when Bungie regained its independence, it naturally joined Microsoft to continue developing Halo.

In total, Frank O’Connor has therefore spent 19 years of his life on the Halo franchise developing the creative, narrative and story development aspects of the Halo franchise for Xbox and Microsoft.

But while his Twitter profile has not been active since last January, the developer has just updated his LinkedIn profile, specifying an end date to his activities at Microsoft. His job as Franchise Creative Director ended in April 2023, and another activity has been reported since March.

Frank O’Connor has now served as Franchise Creative Director since March 2023 for a company that remains unknown at this stage. All that is known is that he apparently remains busy in the Seattle area.

If his departure is confirmed, this would therefore be added to the long list of precedents since more than 60 layoffs have been announced within the 343 Industries studio, even though others had already taken place in the previous months.
