Until this Thursday (20), in Rio de Janeiro, registration is open for a free caregiver course, aimed at residents of the city, including refugees. Offered by Eletrobras Furnas, in partnership with the Brazilian Center for Cooperation and Exchange of Social Services, the course aims to develop technical skills and qualifications for humanized and specialized care for the elderly, children and young people and people with disabilities who have limitations.
Training includes teaching appropriate techniques for bathing, changing clothes for bedridden patients and people who have just undergone surgery, and helping with food and oral hygiene.

Furnas expects the course to serve as an option for students to enter the job market, as well as to empower participants, providing better living conditions for the population, in addition to professional improvement with specialized training.
To enroll, you must have completed elementary school and be over 18 years old. Applications must be made in this link. More than 4,100 people have already participated in the training.
With a workload of 160 hours, classes will be given from May 2 to June 29, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 am to 12 pm, and on a Wednesday in June. The course will be held in the Méier district, in the north of Rio, close to the train station.
Students who complete the course with an attendance of 75% will receive a professional certificate.

According to data from the Annual Social Information List (Rais) of the Ministry of Labor, from 2007 to 2017, the number of regularly employed caregivers rose from 5,263 to 34,051, with growth of 547% in a decade.
Furnas points out that the increase in professionals and the evidence acquired by the sector are due to the aging of the Brazilian population and the attention to patients who have had covid-19.
