From oblivion to discovery: they find a graduation ring lost for 20 years

A garment lost 20 years ago returned to its owner’s hands after an act of goodwill by a stranger who now has one more friend. No one knows for sure how or when term in the sand a class ring.

But Estrella Landeiro does remember how her husband found a class ring while they were walking on a beach in South Florida.

“He picks it up from the sand and hands it to me and at that moment we both started laughing and I asked him a question: ‘Oh, are you asking me to marry you? He laughs and it was a joke between the two of us, we laughed, but well. Then we got to the house and I kept the ring”, remembers Landeiro.

It was like this inside a box for almost ten years, until last year when he noticed the details of the jewel that had the year of graduation, the school and the name of the owner.

“The first thing I did was I went to social media. I think I became a detective at that point, until I started, like, to cut a little more details” of a bible and a cross hidden behind the stone, which were key.

“It was no longer just Annette, but it was Annette who had attended that school, that year and obviously her relationship with God was something very special to her, enough to have it in such a tiny ring,” Landeiro says.

And it was using that information with which he managed to find the owner of the ring. “I took a picture of the ring and texted her asking, ‘Hi Annette, this is your ring.’

Almost a year passed before Annette González saw the message. And a few weeks later, Annette documented on her social networks the moment when Estrella and her husband returned her precious ring, some 20 years after she lost it.

“I felt at that moment that it had to be like this. That I had to have lost it and she was going to find it”, says the owner of the ring.

“It was a very nice moment because I put myself in his shoes. A student ring is something to which one puts heart, feeling because there one tries to put, in something so small, the most important things for you at that moment in your life”.

The ring was the memory of the beginning of a new friendship.
