OCS and HBO, it’s over!
In France, the Orange operator’s OCS channel is the main provider of programs for the American channel HBO. The Wire, The Sopranos, Westworld and especially Game of Thrones: so many programs that have landed on French screens thanks to an active partnership since 2008. Unfortunately for French viewers, this partnership is now coming to an end. As of January 1, 2023, all HBO programs should logically leave the OCS catalog. The problem is that no one really knows where all these programs will end up in France.
HBO in France: a still cloudy future
For the moment, no one knows exactly the future of HBO programs in France. The Warner Bros group. Discovery was logically to launch its own dedicated HBO streaming service in France, namely HBO Max, before reversing this decision. For the moment, nothing is certain therefore, but several tracks are available to French spectators according to colleagues from Numerama.
One of the most likely situations would be that Amazon Prime Video recovers part of the programs broadcast on OCS after having entered into an agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery last October. Another potential case is Canal+ who won the bet and would broadcast this content at the start of the school year. Otherwise, Warner Bros. Discovery would have decided to disperse its programs between the different platforms. In the most disappointing case, the group would not have reached any agreement and would keep their content for broadcast by 2024at the supposed launch of its new platform.
