The sector of graphics cards to play continues to decline, reaching its lowest level in nine years in the first months of 2023, in terms of units sold.
This data comes from a report by the consulting firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR). According to the document, there was a decrease of 12.6% compared to the previous quarter and 38.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
During the period analyzeda total of 6.3 million units were sold. The main cause of the figures continuing negative is consumer behavior, that clearly buys fewer graphics cards, in addition to global inflation, known problems in Latin America, the war between the USA and China, etc etc etc, in addition to the fact that fewer assembled PCs are also sold.
Before the start of the covid-19 pandemic, when the supply and demand for graphics cards and other electronic components (due to mining) skyrocketed, something that was later impacted by a crisis with semiconductors. Even with all those problems, the 2019 performance was better than what is currently presented.
JPR, however, says that all this this is a market course correction and that the performance of the sector will improve from the second half of 2023. During this period, the arrival of new generations of video cards can boost sales.
The performance of AMD and NVIDIA
In terms of competition, NVIDIA remains the undisputed industry leader with 84% of the industry. However, this is not good news, because the one that is very high falls much more than the rest, so it is not exactly good news, since all this means a 2% drop in the market domain of the company and a 15.2% reduction in sales.
It should be remembered that NVIDIA has reduced losses with the sale of equipment for artificial intelligence (AI), recently even reaching a market value of US$1 trillion Thanks to this change.
AMD on the other hand, maintained the same 12% of the previous quarter and is optimistic about the sales of its Radeon 6000 and Radeon 7000, but it is also still in free fall. Finally, Intel was the only one that can celebrate, going from 2% to 4%.
