Francisco Alfonso Pérez Patiño, who is an MS-13 gang member, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for extorting a merchant, in 2020 in Quezaltepeque, La Libertad.

According to investigations, Pérez committed the act the first week of February of that year. He, along with three other gang members, arrived at the victim’s business and handed him a cell phone in a threatening manner, the victim had to answer the calls he received.

Through a call, the defendants demanded $30 dollars in rent that he had to pay weekly, that is, that per month, the victim had to give them $120 dollars so as not to threaten his life and that of his family.

The victim, out of fear, went to file a complaint against the terrorists, and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) carries out all the investigative steps to order the capture of the accused and bring him to justice.

The prison sentence was imposed by the Second Sentencing Court of Santa Tecla, and in the trial the testimony of the victim was key to imposing the sentence; the process was also enriched by expert and documentary evidence.

Pérez was convicted of the crime of aggravated extortion.
