CDMX.- For President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the fact that Genaro García Luna has been tried and found guilty of drug trafficking in the United States is a wake-up call for Mexican justice.

In a conference, the President considered that whoever was Secretary of Public Security with Felipe Calderón should have been tried in the Country, for which he pointed out that the Judiciary needs to be reformed.

“It is a wake-up call for the Mexican justice, because it should have been tried here, we had elements, they showed up, they had already arrested him, but above all the distrust, not so much now in the Executive, but the distrust that exists in the judiciary,” he said.

He recalled, for example, that Rafael Caro Quintero was released in 2013 by decision of a judge.

After this Thursday Santiago Creel assured that he was never aware of Genaro García Luna’s links with criminal groups and denied having had dealings with the former official, the federal president indicated that it is necessary to review.

“It would be necessary to see in the legal question who is in charge of security issues, that is, there is always what is called the head of the sector, if the Interior had the coordination of security issues at that time, but well that is something else.”

“It’s good that he disclaims that responsibility, and what we have to wait is to see if there will be other testimonies and that the in-depth investigation into this matter is continued.”

“Now, you cannot hide the situation with one finger, that he is not a member of the PAN. There must be countless testimonies of how PAN legislators, PAN leaders, defended the strategy of Calderón, of García Luna, in the networks must already be circulating”.

‘Mexico will continue to support Castillo’

López Obrador said that Lilia Paredes, wife of Pedro Castillo, asked him yesterday at the National Palace not to abandon the deposed President of Peru.

“I received her, she is an exceptional, humble, good woman, she came to thank me for what was done with them to talk to me about her children, they are already studying, we are trying that they do not lack anything, she is full of feelings and well, also asking us that we not abandon their husbands,” she declared.

The federal president insisted that the dismissal of Castillo was a great injustice because he was elected by the people.

“The conservatives of Peru violated the Constitution, which is a minority eh, since they elected him they began to harass him, they had to accept the result that a representative of the people, of the poor, indigenous, won, and unfortunately there is racism, classism,” reiterated.

“There are many natural resources in Peru and they are coveted by the large transnationals, gas, copper, lithium, they also exploit the people, plunder their natural resources, there is a lot of poverty, all of this leads to taking away legal and legitimately constituted authorities, they are blows of state media violating the Constitution,” he added.

In a conference, the Chief Executive lamented that the Organization of American States (OAS) did not request the release of Castillo.

“It is for the OAS to be summoning all the member states to request that the president who is illegally imprisoned be released and that his position be restored,” he criticized.

Instead, he said, the OAS turned a blind eye and gives reason to authoritarianism.

“The answer is the fabrication of more crimes, the almost absolute control of the information media in Peru, people are informed by social networks, the great international press is forgotten and the UN intervenes, so it is unfortunate.”

Mexico, he insisted, will continue to support Castillo and will continue to demand his release.

He pointed out that President Dina Boluarte, whom he described as spurious, only has a 15 percent approval rating.

“And the congress has even less approval, it has 90 percent rejection and even so they rule with bayonets and repression, force, there are already more than 60 murdered and in those same polls the majority of the people in Peru are asking that an election be called immediately.”

“Let the people decide, the 80, 90 percent majority, and they want to stay until 2026, so what is happening is very unfortunate and one cannot remain silent in the face of injustice,” he stressed.

The Mexican Government, through the National Migration Institute, granted Paredes and his children political asylum upon their arrival in the country at the end of 2022.
