Gasoline prices drop to annual lows

MIAMI.- The Christmas holidays are reflected at the gasoline pumps in Florida by lowering the average price of fuel for one more week, thus easing the pockets of drivers.

According to AAA’s press release, the state’s gasoline average fell 15 cents, reaching $3 and setting the lowest price of 2023.

Drivers can expect fuel prices to remain low unless there is a sudden spike in oil prices, said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins.

“Approximately 35% of Florida gas stations now have fuel for less than $3 a gallon,” Jenkins noted.

“Almost 10% of retailers have prices below $2.70.”

The most expensive gas in the state is found in the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton, Naples and Sebring areas, where it ranges from $3.09 to $3.21 per gallon.

For its part, it is more economical to fill the tank in Crestview/Fort Walton Beach, Pensacola and Panama City, where prices will range between $2.83 and $2.85 per gallon.

In the particular case of Miami-Dade, this Monday, December 11, the average price of regular gasoline is $3.04, the median $3.52, while premium reaches $3.78, according to AAA.

A year ago, the average price of gasoline in the state was $3.163 a gallon.

To save fuel, AAA advises: reduce speed when driving, since “as speed exceeds 50 miles per hour, aerodynamic drag increases, resulting in greater fuel consumption”; avoid sudden starts and accelerations, avoid leaving the engine idling for too long, “time” traffic lights to avoid braking, and plan errands in advance to do them in a single trip.
