Three productions of the Musiktheater im Revier (MiR) are this weekend, 22./23. April for the last time this season. So if you haven’t managed to watch “The Bartered Bride”, “Leonce and Lena” or “Don Pasquale” yet, you now have the opportunity to do so again.
Songs by Herbert Grönemeyer are sung live by the ensemble
Bedřich Smetana’s comic opera “The Bartered Bride”, which Sonja Trebes’ production has thoroughly freed from its supposed dustiness, will be performed in the Big House on Saturday evening, April 22nd. Start is at 7.30 p.m. Without betraying the work and its comedy, the director draws a picture of country life between idyll and social confinement that is valid today.

Also on Saturday, the production of Georg Büchner’s “Leonce and Lena” will be shown for the last time in the Small House. The experienced puppet director and professor at the Ernst Busch University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Astrid Griesbach, lets the comedy of the text sparkle and skilfully integrates the songs by Herbert Grönemeyer sung live by the ensemble into her production, which have not been heard on the theater stage since their premiere in 2003 were.
Opera “Don Pasquale” looks at the conflict of generations
On Sunday, April 23rd, the MiR will be showing the comic opera “Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti for the last time. Baritone Urban Malmberg shines in the title role, both vocally and in acting. Zsófia Geréb stages a tabloid comedy about the conflict of generations in the trendy setting of Ivan Ivanov and Vanessa Vadineanu.
