The National Gendarmerie has set up cells to pursue and track down drivers performing dangerous maneuvers on the roads. The aim is to stop them and take the necessary legal action against them, because of the danger they pose to themselves and other road users.

These cells are based on “elements of surprise, camouflage, dynamism, speed of intervention and flexibility in action to put an end to such behavior”, explains the press release from the National Gendarmerie published on Saturday. The objective of all these measures is to “reduce road accidents and eliminate those illegal behaviors that endanger road users and cause serious traffic accidents,” the statement added.

National Gendarmerie authorities believe that citizens are “always active partners in the fight against such behavior” and can report any incident via the toll-free number 10 55 or the National Gendarmerie’s “Tariki” page on Facebook.

Measures to reduce road accidents

In addition, the National Gendarmerie authorities hope that these measures will help reduce the number of road accidents in Algeria. The country faces an increasing number of road accidents, which are often caused by unsafe behavior on the roads. In 2019, there were more than 3,500 dead and 28,000 injured in road accidents in Algeria, according to official figures.

Local and national authorities have taken several measures to reduce the number of road accidents, including strengthening roadside checks, imposing higher fines for traffic violations, educating drivers about the dangers of dangerous driving and improving road conditions.

To conclude, the cells of the National Gendarmerie to track down dangerous drivers on the roads are part of this strategy aimed at reducing road accidents and improving road safety in Algeria. The authorities hope that citizens will also contribute to this fight by reporting any dangerous behavior they observe on the roads.
