Google Sheets – better known as Google Spreadsheets in this country – is getting a useful update for all of you who often work with functions in spreadsheets and may have used Sheets’ “named functions” at one time or another. These include, for example, the “LAMBDA” and “XLOOKUP” functions. Google sharesthat the new update will now add 11 new functions that should be just as easy to use as the two just mentioned. In Google Sheets, all functions can be inserted via the automatic function completion after pressing the equals sign, via the insert menu or via the function dropdown in the toolbar.
The following functions are added:
- EPOCHTODATE: Converts a Unix epoch timestamp in seconds, milliseconds, or microseconds to a datetime in UTC.
- MARGINOFERROR: Calculates the amount of random sampling error for a range of values and a confidence level.
- TOROW: Converts an array or range of cells into a single row.
- TOCOL: Converts a row or range of cells into a single column.
- CHOOSEROWS: Creates a new field from the selected rows in the existing range.
- CHOOSECOLS: Creates a new array from the selected columns in the existing range.
- WRAPROWS: Wraps the specified row or column of cells by rows after a specified number of elements to form a new array.
- WRAPCOLS: Columns the specified row or column of cells after a specified number of elements to form a new array.
- VSTACK: Appends ranges vertically and sequentially to get a larger array.
- HSTACK: Appends ranges horizontally and sequentially to get a larger array.
- LET: Assigns a name to the results of the value_expression and returns the result of the formula_expression. The formula_expression can use the names defined in the scope of the LET function. The value_expressions are only evaluated once in the LET function, even if the following value_expressions or the formula_expression use them multiple times.
