The Ministry of Family Affairs wants to strengthen child protection in Austria. With a budget of 600,000 euros, projects are to be funded that focus on measures to prevent and raise awareness of violence against children and young people. Another focus is on raising the awareness of adult caregivers in order to be able to recognize different forms of violence and their dynamics more effectively, the ministry announced today.

A “funding call” has now been launched for the project. The call for submissions is aimed at associations and institutions that are working on the creation, evaluation and revision of child protection concepts. In addition, further training events on topics relevant to child protection are to be financed for specialists.

There should also be a budget for victim protection projects and awareness-raising measures for different forms of violence. Funding is planned in particular for intensive education on sexualised and traditional violence, such as female genital mutilation.
