Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey called a news conference Thursday to make an “important criminal justice announcement.”

The event is scheduled for 12:00 pm at the State House.

The governor’s office did not release details about the announcement, but The Boston Globe reported that Healey will recommend pardons for seven people. The names of those people are not yet known.

Any recommendation for clemency would have to be approved by the Governor’s Council.

During her gubernatorial campaign, Healey promised to pardon those who had been convicted of simple possession of marijuana if they applied.
