The PlayStation Gran Turismo line undoubtedly made gaming history, popularizing realistic racing games and has been an essential part of Sony’s gaming console offering ever since. Gran Turismo was also made into a film and will be in cinemas this summer.

stop, stay here Anyone who rolls their eyes at the thought of filming a racing game and thinks that Sony Pictures Entertainment is out for a quick dollar or euro with a well-known license should watch the trailer – and also read what the simple Gran Turismo is all about mentioned film actually goes.

Because the strip, which will be released in cinemas on August 10, 2023, is based on a true story. To be more precise, that of Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe): Because as a teenager, he made the leap from the proverbial couch to the real racing driver’s cockpit. In 2011, Mardenborough became the third and up to this point the youngest gamer to win the so-called GT Academy. The GT Academy is a sponsorship program from Nissan and Sony that aims to pave the way for Gran Turismo players to get into real racing cars.

Mardenborough actually made the leap and his story is now told in the film. The trailer that has now been released not only confirms that this is probably or in all probability not a hasty shot.

Highly cast, in front of and behind the camera

Because the director took over none other than Neil Blomkamp. However, the South African leaves his science fiction comfort zone here (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) and implements material from real life. Sony has also signed some high-flyers for the main cast, all from David Harbor (Stranger Things) and Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings movies).

Admittedly, a trailer doesn’t make a good film, but in the case of Gran Turismo one can still be optimistic. Because the pictures that can be seen here make you want more.
