Scheduled for this summer, the film Gran Turismo is still quite discreet. But new information and an unpublished image come to raise the hype.
Long shunned, adaptations of video games are now on the rise. Arcane in 2021 on Netflix, The Last of Us at the beginning of the year, or even the film Super Mario Bros. currently are just some of the biggest commercial and critical successes that attest to it. But today is the film adaptation of the franchise Grand Touring which interests us. And for good reason, the film is finally talking about him again.
Impressive waterfalls in perspective
A few hours ago, the British monthly Empire Magazine exclusively unveiled the first excerpt from an interview granted to it by Neil Blomkamp, director of Grand Touring. The latter evokes his desire to make the film as authentic as possible. For that, exit the overflow of special effects and the usual “cheating”. Here, “these are real actors, in real cars, on real racetracks, driving at breakneck speed”. The feature film should therefore be very impressive visually. But the director does not forget the rest and promises that the emotions will also be there.
The ideal for me was to make a video game adaptation with character work that propels the film even more than the race. Even though the racing is pretty damn intense too.

What do we know about the movie Grand Touring ?
So we know that the actors – and probably their stunt doubles – got very involved. But involved in what, exactly? After all, the movie Grand Touring is scheduled for August 9, 2023, and not that much is known about it. Nevertheless, we have some information at our disposal. First, as we said, Neil Blomkamp is directing this adaptation produced by Columbia Pictures, PlayStation Productions, 2.0 Entertainment and Trigger Street Productions. On the casting side, we will find Archie Madekwe in the role of Jann Mardennorough. This is a real driver who has proven himself in competitions on Gran Turismo 5, before becoming a professional driver. Yes: if you didn’t know, the film is based on a true story! David Harbor (Stranger Things), Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings), or Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) are also in the game. Finally, on the scenario side, here is the first synopsis unveiled a few months ago:
Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate tale of the wish-fulfillment of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose skills helped him win a series of Nissan competitions to become a true professional racing driver. .
