The graphics card industry is in a turmoil price-wise. What can we expect? Here’s what we know.

After two years of scarcity and drastic price increases in the graphics card industry, the trend seems to be going in the right direction. At least that’s what we can discover via various figures that currently concern the Chinese market.

Market prices are falling

Not long ago, the recommended retail price on the graphics card market was happily exceeded by the majority of manufacturers and resellers. Worse, you had to fight or participate in queues to have the chance to get a GPU… If the stock problems now seem to be resolved, the price is still quite high even if it tends to go down over time. weeks. And all this seems to be confirmed in China, the cradle of the graphics card, judging by various analysts. As reported by our colleagues from Wccftech the Chinese graphics card market is in the process of moving seriously with declines of around -20%.

The basic MSRP (list price) is lower than in Europe or the rest of the West, in particular because of the absence of import taxes and the proximity to production sites. Despite everything, the price difference between the said MSRP and the resellers is quite significant.

These price drops reflect the state of the PC market as a whole, which has seen a significant decline with an expected recovery in the second half of 2023. Retailers and companies have been offering more recently (especially in England and the USA unfortunately ) significant discounts. For example, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB graphics card recently hit its lowest ever price of $762 in the US, marking a 15% drop from its original list price of $899. This may seem minimal but given the situation a few months ago, this is excellent news.

A price drop to be expected in the graphics card sector in France?

At French retailers, the price is also falling. However, it is less important than the situation across the Atlantic. The cheapest AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB is, for example, 899 euros at LDLC. We are far from the price practiced in dollars but it is however quite noticeable, the price curve is going down.
