About his experience in a new country, doing television and what it represented winning the Nuestra Belleza Latina pageant in 2009 spoke in a recent interview with The Hot Table.
“Thanks to Nuestra Belleza, I had a good talk, coming from scratch with the skinny pocket from Cuba I made good money, I was able to bring my mother, who was in Cuba at the time, I have my brother here, he brought his family. Now I have those closest to me,” he said when asked how much he has done to change the lives of his loved ones.
“Unfortunately my grandparents died in Cuba and I couldn’t bring them but it has been a change, for me, for the whole family that is here now enjoying the union, the freedom, having many things and I giving to my children. what I didn’t have,” he added.
Words of respect and gratitude were also dedicated at the beginning of his speech to all those who decide to start a new life in a different land from the one where they were born.
“We have to take our hats off to all immigrants who come to this country looking for a dream, without speaking English as their first language, adapting to a totally different country,” he said in that regard.
After that, he sent the advice to those who make that decision: “get a little out of what you bring from your land, not pride, but adapt to the new life, new rhythm, new culture,” added Gil, who after living 25 years in Cuba Gil emigrated to the United States.
In 2021, shortly after the historic 9/11 protests in Cuba, Greidys Gil He raised his voice to denounce the repression of his compatriots for taking to the streets to protest against a precarious situation in all aspects.
“I have to speak and use my voice for a people who is being massacred by the government, because we have to end once and for all the overthrow of that dictatorship that we have had for 62 years,” he said through tears through a video shared on networks.
