Group of thieves steal merchandise from Gucci store in South Coast Plaza

The Gucci store in Orange County’s South Coast Plaza is the latest target in a series of hit-and-run robberies Wednesday night.

A group of thieves made off with more than $100,000 worth of merchandise, mostly handbags, at the Costa Mesa store. The robbery happened around 7:15 p.m.

The Costa Mesa Police Department said they responded within minutes.

A store in Hancock Park is the latest to fall victim to mob robberies in Los Angeles, causing much concern among merchants, customers and the entire community.

They said a group of between five and 10 thieves ran in while the store was open and quickly ran out of bags.

This incident is the latest in a series of flash mob robberies at retail stores, including those at Nordstrom at Westfield Topanga Mall and an Yves Saint Laurent store at Americana at Brand.

Another robbery was reported Tuesday night at a high-end denim store in Hancock Park, with a group of about 20 people, all hooded.

Last week, they managed to deal a major blow to organized theft from retail stores.

In the operation, they arrested more than 50 people in the Central Valley of California and recovered merchandise worth approximately $60,000.

Mayor Karen Bass is expected to speak about the crimes at a news conference Thursday morning.
