Mexico City.- Guillermo del Toro already has a new project on his hands, it is the adaptation of the novel ‘The Buried Giant’, by the writer Kazuo Ishiguro, which will be brought to the big screen with stop motion animation.

The director of Pinocchio, a film nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film, commented that he seeks to give animation a space, since it is cataloged as being merely for children.

“Animation has given us so many indelible images over the years, but in many ways the industry wants to keep it on the kids’ table. So I want to continue to push the medium into areas that demonstrate its capability,” he said.

The novel ‘The Buried Giant’ tells the story of an elderly couple who have memory problems due to a fog that invaded the town. The writer Kazuo Ishiguro won a Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017 for this work, which is why it is expected to be a favorite among critics.

Del Toro commented that he is working hand in hand with writer Dennis Kelly, as he wants to start the design process in two months.

“The next stop-motion film I’m doing is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘The Buried Giant’, which I’m currently writing with Dennis Kelly and we started the design process in two months,” added the filmmaker.

Sources close to the director of La Forma Del Agua assure that the film will hit theaters in two years, as he has other projects planned.
