Gunmen hiding in an alleyway surprised a couple inside a vehicle

A woman and a man were ambushed in which about 20 shots were fired at them Sunday night in North Philadelphia.

The bloodshed was reported to have taken place in the 2700 block of North Dover Street at about 8:35 p.m.

Chief Inspector DF Pace said the 30-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound to the back inside a Chevrolet parked right in front of her residence. The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital by paramedics and admitted in critical condition.

A 38-year-old gentleman, who was with the woman in the vehicle, but ran at the time of the shooting and got into another car to flee, arriving privately at Roxborough Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.

“So far we do not know the reason. We don’t know if the man lived in the area, but the woman did. We know that it was one or two gunmen with semi-automatic weapons who fired at least 20 shots. We believe they were hiding in an alley near the woman’s home until they came out and shot them by surprise,” Pace said, mentioning that if the target of the attack was the man, “the lady was a victim of the situation.”

So far no weapons have been recovered, nor have descriptions of the suspects been released. Everything remains under investigation.
