Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Patrick Graichen can count on his previous salary for another three months after leaving the Federal Ministry of Economics.

According to the federal salary law, a civil servant who has been temporarily retired will continue to receive the salary that was due to him on the day before the transfer for the current and the following three months, the ministry said on Wednesday on request.

According to the federal salary law, state secretaries are classified at salary level B11. The valid salary table provides for a basic salary of 15,074 euros per month.

As the ministry further announced, after the three months there is a right to a so-called increased pension for the period in which the office of State Secretary was held, for a maximum of three years. After that, the final pension is calculated. The Ministry did not provide any information on the amount of the increased and final pension. This depends on the length of service as a civil servant.

According to the information, Graichen has been a civil servant for almost 20 years. The official appointment took place in the summer of 2003, when he was working in the Federal Ministry for the Environment. In 2012 he switched to the think tank “Agora Energiewende”. Since then, according to the ministry spokeswoman, he has been on leave and has not built up any further pension entitlements until he joined the Federal Ministry of Economics under Robert Habeck (Greens) in December 2021.

A transitional allowance is not mentioned by the Ministry. According to the Civil Service Pension Act, civil servants who have not been placed on temporary retirement at their own request receive this. It is almost 72 percent of salary and is paid for a maximum of three years. (dpa)
