Have you seen them? They ask for help to find cows that escaped from a farm in Maryland

Marylanders make an unusual appeal to the rest of the community: They ask for help locating at least two runaway cows.

The animals escaped from a farm in Anne Arundel County on Thursday and have been seen in Prince George’s County over the past few days.

The cows have been sighted multiple times in Bowie as of noon Tuesday.

A rare call was heard on a police scanner late on Sunday for help with the runaway cows.

“I know it’s a long shot and unorthodox, but, we’re asking for interpreters – can we check the air and see if anyone has any wrestling or cowboy experience, that can offer a bit of wisdom?” asked a man in an office at the police.

“Copy. I’ll check,” another man replied with a chuckle.

Resident Lauren Miller said she saw the cows in her neighborhood and was “shocked.” She followed them in her car and talked to them.

“I was like, ‘Hey guys, do you need any help? I’m an animal rescuer at heart,” she joked.

The cows had traveled an estimated 24 miles by noon Tuesday, from their farm in Odenton to various locations in Bowie. Several people called Telemundo 44 Monday night and said they had seen the cows near Benjamin Tasker Middle School.

The cows escaped Thursday, and Bowie police are working with the cows’ owners to get them home and keep them safe, Deputy Chief Dwayne Preston said.

“It’s not something we do on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

One day after Miller saw the cows, he saw people on horseback.

“On Sunday I see the cows and then on Monday I see cowboys, so I don’t even want to know what day it is,” he joked. “It’s been a crazy couple of days at Bowie.”

If you see the cows, the police ask that you contact them.
